THE ORIGINAL INNOVATORS

The invention of our revolutionary steel roofing tiles in New Zealand in 1957 quickly made Decra an industry success story and a trusted manufacturer. Manufactured from clean, pure materials, Decra’s New Zealand-made tiles are manufactured to stringent ISO 9001 standards and exceeds international standards.

Innovation is a cornerstone of Decra’s ethos, with significant investment into research and development resulting in high-performing products and continual new product development.

Decra is proudly owned by IKO Metals, a global leader in the roofing industry.  With over 65 years of roofing heritage and more than 500 staff worldwide, IKO has remained firmly rooted in its founder’s core values, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality.

In all of its plants, IKO implements a program of continuous improvement that includes updating equipment and refining systems and processes in order to maximise efficiency and productivity, reduce waste and enhance performance and safety.

Today, you’ll find Decra products in over 127 countries, and Decra manufacturing plants across three continents.  While you’ll find many imitations of our products none will live up the exceptional standards of quality that we hold ourselves to.   • 1886

    Alexander Harvey sets up a small manufacturing business in Auckland, New Zealand under the name Alex Harvey & Sons.

  • 1942

    Delta Tile Company, a precursor to Ross Roof Group, owned by John Ross starts manufacturing concrete roof tiles and concrete blocks.

  • 1951

    IKO was founded in Alberta, Canada by Isidore Koschitzky, manufacturing building paper and later asphalt shingles.

  • 1957

    LJ Fisher & Co develop a world-first stone-chip coated roofing tiles under the trade name Decramastic. 

  • 1967

    Rapid growth leads to a new factory being commissioned at Felton Mathew Avenue, Auckland

  • 1969

    Alex Harvey & Sons Ltd purchases L.J Fisher & Co.  Alex Harvey Industries Ltd (AHI) is formed out of a merger between Alex Harvey & Sons and ACI Operations (NZ) Ltd.

  • 1976

    The original version of today’s Classic tile is launched

  • 1980

    The Decrabond profile, a precursor to the Heritage tile, is launched and is an immediate success.

  • 1983

    An upgraded coating system is launched with two layers of protective coating on the underside as well as five layers of protective material on the outer side.

  • 1987

    Complementing the popular textured, stone-chip finish tiles, new satin paint finish tiles are launched.

  • 1989

    Expansive factory spanning 108,000 square feet commissioned and opened in Corona, California.

  • 1992

    The Corona Shake profile is launched, renamed today as Shake.

  • 1998

    New state-of-the-art European factory opens in Belgium, the largest of its kind worldwide.

  • 2001

    Revolutionary Concealed Fastening (CF) technology launched in the New Zealand market with the Shingle profile, an early version of today’s CF Slate profile.

  • 2003

    AHI Roofing Ltd is purchased by Fletchers and is renamed Roof Tile Group (RoofTG Pacific Ltd).

  • 2007

    Mediterranean-styled Milano profile launched in New Zealand.

  • 2016

    Alpine profile developed and launched.

  • 2018

    Global roofing powerhouse, IKO, acquires RoofTG Pacific Ltd, forming IKO Metals as its metal roof tile arm of the business.

  • 2019

    Aspen profile launched in New Zealand.

  • 2021

    IKO acquires Ross Roof Group (Ross Roofing) bringing the popular brands Metrotile and Tilcor into the IKO family.

  • 2024

    Architecturally designed Calibre profile launched in New Zealand.
